10 Common CLAT Preparation Mistakes Students Make in April (And How to Fix Them)
April is hope month.
New notebooks. Fresh schedules. Grand resolutions.

Mistake #2: Making an “Inspirational” Timetable (That’s Impossible)
What students do: “I’ll wake up at 5 AM. Study 7 hours. Take a mock every day. Revise on Sundays. Never watch Netflix again.”
What happens: Day 1 works. Day 2 is hard. Day 3 fails. Day 4 guilt. Day 5 “I’m a failure.”
The Fix (The 3-Hour Rule):
A realistic April timetable:
7:00 AM – 8:00 AM: One section (Legal or Logical)
8:00 AM – 8:15 AM: Break
8:15 AM – 9:15 AM: Second section
9:15 AM – 9:30 AM: Break
9:30 AM – 10:00 AM: Review + Mistake Log
Total: 3 hours. That’s it.
Why this works: You can actually DO it. Consistency beats intensity. 3 hours daily for 300 days = 900 hours. That’s more than enough for CLAT.

Mistake #3: Starting with “Hard Topics” First
What students do: “Let me master the hardest topic first. Then everything else will be easy.”

What happens: Same score for 3 months. “Why am I not improving?”
The Fix (The 2:1 Analysis Rule):
For every 1 hour of mock taking, spend 2 hours analyzing.

Mistake #5: Ignoring Current Affairs Until November
What students do: “I’ll do current affairs in December. It’s just memorization.”
What happens: December arrives. 12 months of news. 400 pages. Panic. Cram. Forget on exam day.
The Fix (The 20-Minute Daily Rule):
Daily Current Affairs (April onwards):
10 minutes: Read ONE editorial (FIRST-LAST sentence method)
5 minutes: Note 3 legal news items
5 minutes: Note 2 government schemes
Total: 20 minutes daily.
By January: You’ll have covered 9 months of news. No cramming. No panic.
The “Sunday Stack” method: Every Sunday, spend 30 minutes reviewing the week’s 5 legal news items. Write a 1-line summary for each. That’s your revision material.
Mistake #6: Treating Legal Reasoning Like “Law School”
What students do: Buys a law textbook. Tries to memorize IPC sections. Writes detailed notes on legal history.
What happens: Wastes hours on things CLAT doesn’t test. Feels “smart” but scores low.
The Fix (Principle vs Fact):
What CLAT Legal Reasoning actually tests:
You are given a PRINCIPLE (the “law” for this question)
You are given a FACT (a story)
You apply the principle to the fact
NOT tested:
Memorizing section numbers
Knowing case names (except landmark ones)
Legal history or philosophy
The CLAT classes method: Read the principle. Read the fact. Ask: “If I apply this principle exactly as written, what happens?” Don’t bring outside knowledge.
Example:
Principle: “Trespass requires intentional entry onto another’s land.”
Fact: “A’s ball rolls into B’s garden. A steps in for 2 seconds to get it.”
Answer: No trespass. Entry was accidental, not intentional.
See? No section number needed.
Mistake #7: Skipping “Small” Sections (Quantitative)
What students do: “I’m bad at math. I’ll skip Quantitative. I’ll make up marks in Legal.”
What happens: 10-15 marks gone. CLAT is competitive. 15 marks can drop your rank by 5,000.
The Fix (The 10-Minute Daily Math):

What students do: “I need silence. No study groups. No distractions.”

80% of your time: Solo study (deep work)
20% of your time: Group study (doubt clearing, mock discussion)

Mistake #9: Comparing Your Day 1 to Someone’s Day 300
